Interview with Diane

Tell us a little about yourself and your history with agile?

I started my journey in the agile world back in 2013, when I was a globe-trotter in Ireland. I joined an international team that was just starting to dabble in Scrum, although our practices were a bit shaky at the time. I played a pivotal role in integrating our team in India with our team in Ireland and building a cross-functional team. That’s when I decided to become a Scrum Master, leveraging my technical background.

After Ireland, I spent two and a half years at Capgemini in France, where I continued to immerse myself in agile practices. In 2015, I decided to leave Irkande and moved to Barcelona, continuing my professional journey and passion for agility.

How do your personal values connect with the work as Agile Coach?

Absolutely! Some of the personal values that are important to me include honesty, integrity, respect, empathy, and continuous learning. As an Agile Coach, I believe it’s essential to cultivate these values in myself and to encourage them in the teams and organizations I work with. As a trainer, I try to constantly learn and practice something new, it helps to feel I am also learning and growing while supporting and coaching my clients and their organizations.

What types of clients has worked with you over the years?

I’ve worked with a diverse range of clients, including startups, small and medium-sized businesses, large corporations, non-profits, and government agencies. My clients have been in various industries, such as gaming, retail, restaurant, and more.

Can you share their personal values that are valuable to them?

Working in a team is essential to agile, and as a coach, I believe in leading by example. I strive to build strong relationships with the teams I work with, establishing trust and respect. I encourage open and honest communication and foster a culture of collaboration, where everyone’s input is valued. I also believe in continuous improvement and encourage teams to regularly reflect on their work and identify areas for growth.

What agile tools do you use with your clients?

I love using a range of tools with my clients to facilitate communication and collaboration, no matter where they are in the world. I am a big fan of Miro, as it helps to create a shared visual workspace that everyone can adapt to and feel connected with, even if we are all spread out across the globe. This tool aligns well with my values of building a strong and inclusive team culture.

What coaching philosophies do you adhere to and work with?

I place a strong emphasis on active listening. One of my favorite books is “Just Listen” by Mark Goulston, which has taught me the importance of truly understanding and connecting with others. I strive to observe and analyze patterns in team dynamics and communication to better support my clients. While I don’t have a preferred methodology, I always prioritize the value of listening and adapting to the needs of the team. “Pick up your battles”
